OPEN DC Annual Event - 2014

Washington, D.C--- Organization of Pakistani Entrepreneurs of North America (OPEN) will be hosting its annual conference, Agents of Growth: Inspire and Empower Entrepreneurial Excellence at the Capital One Headquarters in Tysons Corner on October 18, 2014 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. OPEN’s annual conference is a premiere networking event that brings prominent South Asian businessmen andprofessionals to celebrate the new and learn from one another.  The conference is anticipated to draw over 300 attendees.

Narjis Ali, President of OPEN DC, states that “Everyone understands the importance of entrepreneurship in our society. OPEN’s annual conference is a once in a year opportunity that offers not only Pakistani Americans to come together from all over the world, but anyone interested in entrepreneurship, to celebrate innovation, accomplishments and recognize ambassadors of growth.  I encourage everyone in the community to attend---there will be topics of interest for everyone—from food to diplomacy.”

This year’s annual conference is expected to be a tour de force where visionaries in the fields of government, food, music and technology will share how they used their innate ingenuity to shift perceptions in their respective professions. The OPEN annual event is the largest collection of Pakistani-American entrepreneurs in the metropolitan DC area and this year will once again feature a highly accomplished set of speakers.

Adnan Durrani 

Mr. Durrani is a serial entrepreneur and is currently the CEO of American Halal, which wholly owns its flagship brand, Saffron Road, the first Halal certified product to be sold nationally in the USA and now at over 10,000 retail food stores. Whole Foods markets , the largest organic food retailer in the world with over $13 billion in sales, has noted Saffron Road as being one of the most successful new brand launches nationally in their 30 year history. 

Farah Pandith 

Farah was appointed the first-ever Special Representative to Muslim Communities in June 2009 by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. Under the leadership of Secretary John Kerry, the Office of the Special Representative is responsible for executing a vision for engagement with Muslims around the world based on a people-to-people and organizational level. In the years since her swearing in, Pandith has traveled to more than 80 countries and launched youth-focused initiatives including Generation Change, Viral Peace, the Transatlantic Leadership Network, and Hours Against Hate (a campaign that was a partner with the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.) 

Antonio Doss

Antonio Doss was appointed Acting District Director of the U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA) Washington Metropolitan Area District Office on March 18, 2013. As District Director, he oversees the delivery of SBA's small business financing products, contracting programs, and entrepreneurial coaching services in Washington, DC, Northern Virginia and Suburban Maryland.

Riaz Siddiqi

Riaz Siddiqi is a Founder and Managing Partner at Denham Capital and brings more than 32 years of experience to the firm in the energy and asset management fields. He is a member of the Investment Committee and Valuation Committee. 

Levar Stoney

Levar Stoney is the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia and served as the Deputy Director of the McAuliffe Gubernatorial Transition.  He was the Deputy Campaign Manager of McAuliffe's 2013 campaign for Governor. In 2008, Stoney served as Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Virginia. At the time he was one of the youngest state Democratic party executive directors in the United States. 

Adnan Ahmed

Adnan Ahmed is co-founder and President of CNSI. He is responsible for the overall health of the company and leads CNSI's management with an emphasis on identifying new strategic markets and leveraging relationships with customers and partners. 

Kewan Khawaja

Khwaja is founder and co-CEO of Techlogix. While donning multiple hats, Kewan loves playing a motivational role to bring out the best in the company's multifaceted workforce.  His consulting interests are focused around business process management, business intelligence, and alignment of enterprise IT initiatives with corporate strategy.

Pernian Faheem

Pernian is a fashion entrepreneur and Founder of "È mio Pernia," a bespoke tailored clothing brand that provides high-end custom tailored professional wear for women in the US. Pernian partners with young, emerging fashion designers in Pakistan to create unique collections that are showcased on an e-commerce website. The È mio brand has also established a scholarship fund in partnership with CARE Pakistan to identify raw artistic talent in underprivileged areas of Pakistan and financially support those students through higher education in Art and Design.

Shahzad Malik

Shahzad is a young CEO in one of Pakistan's major industries. He joined Master Group of Industries as CEO after completing his post graduate degree from Bentley University, USA. His vision to bridge the generation gap and foster healthy bonding between the experienced class and young professionals is a driving force to sustain an innovative work environment that has helped maintain Master as a pioneer in creating mattresses with latest international technologies. Spearheading the Groups energy project, Shahzad has ventured forward to setup a 50 MW wind power plant at Jhimpi Sindh.

Puja Satiani 

Satiani became a chocolatier after having been an attorney in Washington, D.C. for over a decade, splitting her time between an esteemed federal clerkship and a likewise respected position at a prestigious international law firm. She has now trained at L'Ecole du Grand Chocolat in southeastern France and at the Callebaut Academy in Chicago.


Taimoor Salahuddin, aka, Mooroo is the managing director of Aflatoon Studios, a production house based in Lahore and Karachi, Pakistan.  A critically-acclaimed film-maker, under Aflatoon Studios, he has directed 8 music videos, 5 documentaries and 2 TV Commercials. His work can be seen at

Presidents Message 

NarjisI am honored to take on the role as President of OPEN WDC for the 2013-2014 term with our new Chairman of the Board, Mr. Imran Akram. Since the inception of our DC chapter  in 2004, OPEN DC has been striving to provide a networking and mentoring platform to entrepreneurs or aspiring entrepreneurs, and to create success for our members, their respective companies, employees and even families! We look forward to working together with our members to explore the challenges of leading successful businesses in a transparent world with new dynamics and socio-political challenges including social media, increased investor and public scrutiny. 

For our members, our focus will be to provide better value by offering unique and  innovative programs, ways to help gain knowledge in their areas of interest, meet and learn from industry leaders and their success stories, and provide some events and offering for members only. 

This year our focus will be on:

·         Youth outreach, mentoring students and providing career counseling and mentoring opportunities;

·         Women’s Leadership Forum which made a mark in 2012 with a number of extremely interesting events;

·         Matching business opportunities between US and Pakistan by collaboration  through Department of State, USAID and others to promote initiatives for investment in Pakistan;

·         Strengthening partnerships with our existing sponsors and partners and enhancing our schedule of CM exclusive events.

We are very grateful to the Executive Committee, The Board of Directors, our Charter Members and Volunteers who help make OPEN DC a successful organization.
